What to Do When Your Blood Sugar Is Too High

Our human body was not created to eat a high starch or grain diet, or one based on refined sugars. It was only when man modernized agriculture in the recent past that grain products and concentrated sugars were introduced into our diets.

Eating a lot of these is quite alright as long as we do a lot of exercise or have a physically challenging job, but as soon as we become sedentary, we will have a tendency to become obese.

That is because exercise itself is the first metabolism booster. If you do 40 minutes of cardio training, the body keeps on eliminating fats up to 10 hours AFTER the exercise, so take a note that no food is involved here.

When we think "diet", we think the food we eat will do the trick, unfortunately many diet programs work only as long as you stick to the plan. Once you revert back to your normal eating habits chances are you will regain the weight you lost and maybe even gain a few more pounds that you didn't want.

"This time I am going to stick to my diet," you tell yourself. You make every effort to follow a healthful eating plan, but in a moment of weakness, hunger strikes and you find yourself indulging in a feeding frenzy.

It really doesn't matter what type of diet you try, any short-term diet for weight loss inevitably leads to weight gain.

Certainly nothing will replace a sound diet and exercise routine. But if you want food to help, the mistake is searching for the perfect diet, while the focal point should be which foods will benefit me most.

The best fruit choices are strawberries, citrus fruit, cranberries, apples, blueberries, raspberries, melons, mangoes, kiwi, and pineapples. These will not cause a spike in blood sugar which is especially detrimental to diabetics.

There are many foods you can eat for any meal in your day that will help you boost your metabolism and lose weight. The reason why these foods are so successful as metabolism boosters is that, in most cases, the energy required to digest them is slightly lower than the energy released from the food itself, which means your body isn't gaining much by eating these foods.

Blood sugar measurement studies have shown that when your blood sugar is too high, it is better to keep to food groups that are reputed to have a low glycemic index. These indicate food types that dissolve slowly into the bloodstream.
