Skin care can be done in various ways. But unfortunately, many people still don't understand the importance of caring for skin health. One way you can do this is by consuming collagen.
"Many are not fully aware that skin care from within must be started at a young age and of course requires a long-term commitment so that the results are better," said Rachel Olsen B.Sc, Nutrition Expert YOUVIT, at the Virtual Press Conference YOUVIT X ERHA Collagen Launch on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
According to Rachel, from mid to late 20's, collagen starts to decrease. Reduced collagen levels cause the skin to become drier and thinner, resulting in decreased skin elasticity and the appearance of fine lines.
"In addition to increasing age, lifestyle, such as lack of sleep, lack of nutrition and water, frequent exposure to sunlight and air pollution, smoking or alcohol consumption can also lead to reduced collagen in the skin," said YOUVIT Nutrition Expert Puteri Aisyaffa S. Gz, RD.
Puteri explained that collagen is a special protein in the body. So our bodies already have collagen, but we need additional collagen from outside to maximize production in the body.
"In addition to the skin, collagen also functions as a building block for the structure of our body tissues," said Puteri.
"The functions of collagen include maintaining skin elasticity, keeping skin tight, reducing fine lines on the face. This line on the face is the origin of the face to become wrinkled," added Puteri.
Then according to Puteri, collagen also functions to nourish the skin from within the body. Collagen is already in the body, but if you add it again by taking supplements that contain collagen, of course, the benefits will be maximized.
"Collagen also functions to make the skin texture smoother. If you want your skin to be like baby skin, you can consume collagen because it can make the texture smoother," concluded Puteri.
