Regardless of sufficient research studies on the matter, the truth is that countless numbers of cultures, including Asians and the Amish, have used pineapple juice for centuries to treat everything cold-related. As a cough suppressant, a mucus expectorants, an anti-inflammatory agent of nose and sinus inflammations, its Bromelain enzyme content makes it an effective, well-known combatant of cold and flu symptoms.
Many people already use it fully persuaded that it can go to work up to five times faster than popular OTC cough medications. That being said, this persuasion is rapidly growing as more people turn from chemically-laden OTC remedies and prescribed medications to more natural, remedies that are both less expensive and safer in many ways than commercially bought preparations.
The Recipe:
Now, here is the simple recipe that many are now using to fight against the first signs of a cold or flu:
- 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
- 1 piece of ginger (about 3 inches)
- 1 Tbsp raw honey
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients and take 1/4 cup, 2-3 x/day and repeat recipe daily.
Most of us do not need additional sugar in our diets, so look only for natural unsweetened pineapple juice and stay away from canned. If you can juice the pineapple yourself, that would be far superior to any store bought and his one has the added benefit of being delicious!
