1. Salt Water
Rinsing with salt water is one of the easiest things you can do for
swollen or irritated gums. Because salt water is a disinfectant,
consistent rinsing with salt water can help clean any infections in your
gums and allow for faster healing. Mix about 1 tsp of salt in a glass
of water and rinse, taking extra caution not to swallow the mixture.
2. Lemon Water
Lemon can reduce any swelling in the mouth because it is a natural
anti-inflammatory. Use the juice of one full lemon in one glass of water
and swish around in your mouth. Again, be careful not to swallow the
mixture.
3. Clove Oil
To use clove oil, simply create a mixture of olive oil and a few drops
of clove essential oil, then soak a cotton ball in the mixture. Press
the cotton ball directly to the swollen gums and allow it to soak in.
4. Baking Soda
Baking soda creates an environment where bacteria cannot survive, so
baking soda makes another great home remedy for swollen gums. Create a
paste of baking soda and water, then rub on your gums gently.
5. Hot Compress
If your swollen gums are causing you pain, applying a hot compress can
help. Run a clean cloth under warm water, wring out the excess water,
and place the hot compress on your face, over the painful area of gum.
Let it sit until it is cool and repeat until the pain goes away.
6. Cold Compress
If your gums are swollen but not causing you pain, a cold compress or
ice can help bring the swelling down. Wrap some ice cubes in a clean
cloth, then place on your gums until the swelling reduces.
7. Aloe Vera
Using aloe vera as a toothpaste can help swollen gums. Aloe vera is a
anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, so consistent use of aloe vera on
your gums can give you a healthier smile.
8. Ginger
Create a mixture of ginger and salt, then place the paste directly on the swollen area. This can reduce pain and swelling.
9. Black Tea
Black tea bags can also reduce gum swelling. Brew a cup of black tea
with black tea bags as you normally would, then place the tea bags
directly on your swollen area.
10. Tea Tree Oil
Mix a few drops of tea tree oil into your toothpaste. The anti-inflammatory properties can reduce swelling and pain.
