How to CURE Gingivitis With Turmeric, Coconut Oil, Baking Soda or LEMONS (No dentist required)

How to CURE Gingivitis With Turmeric, Coconut Oil, Baking Soda or LEMONS (No dentist required)

The first stage of gum disease is gingivitis, which is typically brought on by bacterial accumulation in the gums. Early treatment makes it easier because the connective tissues and bone have not yet become infected. Gingivitis can cause extreme gum irritation, swelling, and redness if treatment is not received.

The truth is that if you brush your teeth regularly, you are not likely to get this disease. The symptoms accompanied with gingivitis are:

  • swollen gums
  • bleeding around the gums
  • inflammation of the gums
  • receding gums

The good news is that gingivitis can be cured with home remedies, if it’s identified early on. Below are my home remedies for gingivitis.

USE SALT TO GET RID OF GINGIVITIS

At first sign of gingivitis, rush down to your kitchen and prepare a diluted solution of salt and water to swish. Why is salt so important? Salts make it impossible for the bacteria to survive, by changing the pH level inside your mouth. When used in this mouthwash, salt can be very soothing. This method also helps to reduce the swelling associated with gingivitis.

 Ingredients:

  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 glass Lukewarm water OR 3-5 drops mustard oil

Directions:

  1. Get a glass of water and add 1/2 tsp of salt into it. Stir well and swish your mouth with it. Do this 2 -3 times daily. This doesn’t replace regular daily tooth brushing.
  2. Alternatively, you can make a paste by adding a few drops of mustard oil into 1/2 tsp of salt. Apply the paste on your gum and leave for about 3 minutes. Its now time to wash your mouth with warm water. Do this 3 times daily.

Discover how OIL PULLING can TREAT GINGIVITIS

When many people hear about oil pulling, they think it sounds like some kind of wellness ritual. On the contrary, oil pulling is as simple as swishing a teaspoon of oil in your mouth. It will amaze you to know that this simple practice holds immense health benefits. It helps rid the mouth of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microbes. Ultimately, it can vastly improve your oral health.

Ingredients:

  • 1 -2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1-2 cup Warm water

Directions:

  1.  Put coconut or sesame oil your mouth, and swish! (If you’re using solid coconut oil, you have to chew it first to make it melt) Continue for 10 minutes and spit out. Rinse out your mouth with warm water.

USE BAKING SODA TO CURE GINGIVITIS

Baking soda is one product that can never be missing in my house. I use it for so many things, ranging from cleaning, facial masks and other home remedies. Baking soda helps balance your mouth’s pH levels, making it an unfavorable environment for bacteria to thrive.

Ingredients:

  •  ¼ – Baking soda
  • Warm water

Directions:

  1. Make a paste with baking soda, by combining few drops of water with baking soda. Use common sense here, to determine the amount of water enough to turn it into paste, don’t add too much water. Put the paste on your tooth brush and brush your teeth with it. Do this once every 2 days.
  2. Alternatively, you can make the same paste using baking soda and salt water – and swish your mouth with it. This is preferable done every morning.

USE LEMON JUICE TO GET RID OF GINGIVITIS

There are several claims that lemon juice is used in the treatment of Gingivitis. I believe this is because of its high vitamin C content and anti-inflammatory properties.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sized lemon, squeezed
  • 1 glass of warm water

Directions:

  1.  Mix the juice of lemon with in a glass of warm water and rinse your mouth with it. Best done first thing in the morning, before your brush your teeth.

CLOVE OIL TO GET RID OF GINGIVITIS

The use of clove oil for the treatment of oral infections is as old as the hills. Clove oil has antibacterial and analgesic properties, which is well suited for bacterial infections. It also serves as an effective remedy for toothache.

Ingredients:

  • 3-5 drops Clove oil
  • Cotton Swab

Directions:

  1. Pour few drops of clove oil into a cotton swab.  Hold it against the affected gum for a few minutes. You can also chew a clove everyday to get rid of teeth and gum disease.

ALOE VERA TO TREAT GINGIVITIS AT HOME

I grow aloe vera in my backyard. I have gotten so used to it that I can’t imagine a life without aloe vera. Aloe vera is used in various beauty remedies. It’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory – which is why it can be used to treat Gingivitis.

Ingredients:

  • Aloe vera gel

Direction:

  1. Slice open a leaf of aloe vera and scrape out the gel.
  2. Apply the gel to your gums.

RUB TEA TREE TO OIL TO CURE GINGIVITIS

Tea tree oil is a miracle oil and serves several purposes. My sister used it to treat her acne. It owes its healing ability to antiseptic and antibacterial properties. But before using tea tree on your skin or gum, make sure it’s well diluted, to avoid irritation. Since you are using on your gum, you can dilute it with your ordinary toothpaste.

Ingredients:

  • 2 drops Tea tree oil
  • Tooth paste

Directions:

  1. Add a few drops of tea tree oil into your toothpaste and brush your teeth with it. (Be careful not to swallow the toothpaste, because tea tree oil can be quite toxic when swallowed!)

SAGE IS A HERBAL REMEDY FOR GINGIVITIS

An herbalist friend of mine uses sage and peppermint to treat gingivitis. They are both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. They help in reducing gum swelling and killing the bacteria responsible for gingivitis.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp of sage or peppermint
  • 1 cup Water

Directions:

  1. Bring a cup of water to boil, add sage herb into it.
  2. Turn heat to low and allow it to simmer for about 5 – 10 minutes.
  3. Strain and let it cool down. Use the resulting water to rinse your mouth.

USE GUAVA LEAVES TO TREAT GINGIVITIS

It will surprise you to know that guava leaves are potent in treating gingivitis. They are an excellent source of guaijaverin, an anti plaque agent.

Ingredients:

  • 5 Guava leaves
  • 2 cups Water

Directions:

  1. Bring a cup of water to boil. Add guava leaves into the water.
  2. Turn heat to low and let simmer until half the water evaporates.
  3. Strain and let cool.
  4. Rinse your mouth with the strained water 2 -3 times daily.
  5. Alternatively, you can chew clean guava leaves for a few minutes. Spit it out and rinse mouth with warm water. OR crush guava leaves and rub the resulting paste on the inflamed gum.

TURMERIC CAN CURE GINGIVITIS

Turmeric contains an active component known as curcumin. Curcumin is a well known anti-inflammatory agent and has powerful antioxidant effect. To use turmeric for gingivitis, make an herbal tooth powder.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp Turmeric
  • 8 tsp of Neem powder
  • ¼ tsp Alum powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

Directions:

  1. In a medium sized bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  2. Store it in an air-tight container.
  3. When you are ready to use it, rub a moderate amount on your gum and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse your mouth with warm water thereafter. Do this 2 times daily for best results.

All these remedies don’t take away the fact that you always have to maintain your dental hygiene (prevention is better than treatment). It’s easier to reverse gingivitis at an early stage. There are a few common practice you can use to keep gingivitis at bay.

  • Start by using dental floss before brushing your teeth.
  • Rinse with mouth wash.
  •  Brush your teeth all the way up to your gums.
  • Rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO PREVENT GINGIVITIS

  • Brush your Teeth Daily

It’s advisable to brush your teeth twice a day and after each meal. But often it’s difficult to brush your teeth after each meal. At the least, try with just rinsing your mouth with warm water. However, brushing your teeth before bed is imperative to prevent bacteria from multiplying overnight.

  • Don’t forget to Floss Everyday

Flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth. It cleans areas where toothbrush can’t clean and also prevents cavities. Flossing should be done before brushing the teeth to  loosen any bits of food that get stuck between your teeth.

  • See your Dentist Regularly

Seeing a dentist is paramount to maintaining good dental hygiene. The job of the dentist is to reach those almost impossible places in your dental cavity and clean them thoroughly, as well as spot any red flags for serious dental issues that need treatment. I recommend a visit once every six months.

  • Use proper Mouthwash Daily

While choosing a mouth wash, go for the ones with anti-bacterial properties. I don’t usually dig commercial mouth wash. That’s why I prefer home made ones. Using natural ingredients like baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

<>SOME OTHER TIPS TO PREVENT GINGIVITIS<>

  • Most people wait way too long before changing their toothbrush. Toothbrushes is meant to be changed once every three months.
  • Stop smoking. Smoking is dangerous for your teeth and gums, because it affects your blood flow. Inadequate blood flow leads to poor nutrition to the gums and can cause severe damage.
  • Increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables can not only improve your health but also promote great oral health. These foods provide the body with adequate antioxidants which help fight free radical damage.
  • Foods rich in vitamin C are also encouraged. These foods help prevent gum disease and promote dental health.
  • Sugary foods are the number one enemy of your teeth They are acidic, promoting the growth of bacteria in your mouth. They are the most common factors of severe tooth decay.
