Put These Bug-Repelling Mason Jars Outside and You Might Not See a Mosquito All Summer Long

The summer season brings with it the appearance of insects and other species. There are many efficient sprays that can help you keep these pests away, but many contain the chemical DEET, which can have a number of negative health effects, including allergic responses, skin irritation, and nervous system interference.

Natural bug repellents

The good news is that there are natural ways to repel insects, so you don't have to expose yourself to toxic and deadly pesticides.

Numerous studies have demonstrated how powerfully effective lemon eucalyptus essential oil is at keeping mosquitoes away. Citronella essential oil is also regarded as being particularly beneficial due to its powerful aroma.

According to a study, citrus fruits, including tangerines, limes, oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, have compounds in their peels that can ward off mosquitoes and a variety of other insects. Because of their potent scent, citrus oranges are highly effective at warding off pests.

Mosquito repellent mason jars

One of the most effective ways of using citrus fruits and essential oils in order to repel mosquitoes is the use of mason jars. We will show you how to make a mosquito repellent mason jar:

Needed Ingredients:

  • 1 sliced lemon
  • 1 sliced lime
  • 2 mason jars
  • 10 drops of lemon eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops of citronella essential oil
  • 4 sprigs of rosemary (optional)

Directions

Add a same amount of lime and lemon slices into the jars and into each jar add 2 sprigs of rosemary. Then, pour water into the jars and add the essential oils but make sure not to mix them together. If it is needed, you can add more water.

Backyards, porches, and campfires are the best places for these jars. To activate these mosquito repellents, all you need to do is to light a candle.
