A few years ago I started my day with coffee and I can’t imagine my morning without it. Still, I wondered what would happen if I gave up.
I couldn’t find any definitive information online, so I decided to check it out for myself. And now I’m sharing my impressions with my readers.
Week 1: The first day was the most difficult. I couldn’t focus and just wanted to sleep. During the week, I tried different delicacies: green or fruit-flavored tea, chicory, fruit, and nut salads, and some of them really helped me.
Week 2: I felt an enormous desire to drink coffee at the beginning of the week and almost broke. Chicory no longer helped. But I resisted the temptation, of which I was proud.
Week 3: I started to find it much easier to fall asleep at night without tossing and turning for up to an hour in bed. That’s a very nice novelty, I must say.
Week 4: Getting up for work is also easier. I need to wake up at 6 am to do everything, but I used to press the snooze button at least three times. Now I started to feel a lot better getting out of bed to do things.
What the experiment gave me:
Better sleep. Now I sleep soundly and feel rested after 6 hours. Just that is enough to cut down on coffee for me.
More energy. It turns out that a rested body doesn’t need coffee to wake up. I also noticed that I became calmer overall.
Better looks. A healthy sleep made me look fresh and I got rid of the circles under my eyes.
No more addiction. I confess, I let myself go and drank coffee in two different places in the two days after the end of the experiment. And you know what? It was nothing special. How could I like coffee before?
The most important thing: it turned out that it wasn’t coffee I loved so much. It was the ritual of preparing and drinking in the morning or at work.
We only need our little pleasures in our daily routines. My goal is to think of more of them for myself. Flowers, ginger tea, and honey, whatever.
