Garlic milk may sound weird to many of you, but I am personally used to this right from my childhood. This drink used to be my staple bedtime drink during the winter seasons. It’s definitely a treat to garlic lovers but medicine to people who are not a big fan of garlic. It is a magical drink that is loaded with nutrition, health benefits and curative properties.
Garlic is a rich source of flavonoids, enzymes, and vitamins such as Selenium, Manganese, Vitamin B6, and Calcium that helps in boosting our overall health and immunity. It also has the active ingredient allicin which has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-oxidant properties. Milk is a rich source of calcium, proteins, and sodium whereas turmeric and pepper are enriched with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
When these superfoods are combined, their benefits are innumerable. It is used as a remedy to treat various ailments such as cold, cough, asthma, arthritis, and insomnia. It also helps in reducing the level of LDL (bad cholesterol) and regulating blood pressure. Since there are no side effects, and these ingredients are normally used in our routine cooking, garlic milk is definitely an elixir for our health.
Ingredients : (Serves 2)
- Milk / Almond milk – 2 cups
- Garlic – 4 to 6 cloves
- Black pepper corns – ¼ teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Organic sugar / honey – to taste
Instructions :
- Add 4 to 6 crushed garlic cloves, ¼ teaspoon of crushed black pepper corns, and ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder to 2 cups of milk or almond milk and boil it on a medium flame.
- Once boiled,
strain the milk and add organic sugar. If using honey, wait for the milk
to cool down a bit and add it. It works the best when consumed before
your bed time.
