Gelatin – The Secret To Shiny, Strong Hair

Hair is made of a protein called keratin plus amino acids and gelatin is loaded with keratin proteins that help bind with hair to smoothen the cuticles while nourishing the hair strands.
Smooth cuticles are the key to sexy, shiny hair. Unlike gelatin, egg yolk which also contains whole protein doesn’t adhere well to damaged hair areas.Gelatin powder contains two amino acids, including proline and glycine. Most people don’t consume the organs, fibrous tissues, or bones of animals anymore, so they don’t get enough of these important amino acids. These amino acids are essential for weight regulation and improved immune function.

What Is Gelatin?

Gelatin comes from the structural protein collagen found in many animals. This collagen is a fibrous protein that strengthens the body’s connective tissues and makes up almost one-third of the human body.

Because gelatin is primarily composed of the amino acids glycine and proline (something that most people don’t get enough of), adding gelatin to your diet can help your body in many ways. Gelatin is one of my daily supplements in some form or another, and I’m continually amazed at the uses I keep finding for it.

How Does It Work?

Gelatin – collagen protein derived from bones, cartilage and skin of animals by denaturation. It is a kind of building material, which helps to make hair healthy and strong.
The molecules actually envelop your hair, which helps smooth the entire hair structure. This results in shiny, strong, smooth, soft hair.

If you want to enjoy the best results, try using this DIY gelatin hair mask once a week. Then, you can maintain your results by using the mask twice a month.

Hair Benefits Of Gelatin

The Weston A. Price foundation notes that gelatin offers some excellent health benefits. Some of the excellent benefits of gelatin include the following:
  • It helps tighten any loose skin
  • It supports nail, hair, and skin growth
  • It’s a protein source (though not a spectacular one) and includes amino acids that help with muscle building
  • Aids in digestion by binding with water to make foods move through the digestive tract easily.
  • Improves joint health and may aid in joint recovery

Gelatin Hair Mask Recipe
You’ll Need:

  • 1 tbsp powdered gelatin – you can find this at your local health stores or you can order it on Amazon
  • 1/2 cup of milk or water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or argan oil)
  • 1 egg (white & yolk)
  • 2 tbsp of your fave hair conditioner (or use 2-3 tbsp pureed avocado for extra moisture)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (optional)

Note: If you have super long or very thick hair, you can double the amount of the recipe.

Directions:
  • Warm up the milk or use warm water and mix the gelatin powder until it becomes homogeneous in consistency.{
  • Then add olive oil (or coconut oil), an egg, your hair conditioner (or avocado) and mix again. If you have any essential oil, add a few drops (but this is optional)
  • Apply the mask on a freshly washed hair. Divide your hair into 4 sections and apply the gel as if you’re applying a styling gel. Distributing the mixture all throughout the section.
  • When working on the section, you have to work fast because the gel would harden quickly. Remember to comb your hair gently. Once you’re done with one section, leave it alone and don’t touch it again. Move on to the other hair section and repeat the process.

  • Let it sit for about 20 minutes or until it’s a bit dry and hardened. Or you can use a blow dryer to help with the drying. You can attached the diffuser to evenly distribute the heat. If you have a hooded dryer, you can sit down on it until the duration of the drying.

  • Once the hair is a bit dry, you can rinse it with warm water. When rinsing your hair, let the water touch your hair (don’t use your fingers) allowing your hair to soften on its own before touching it.

  • Once your hair has soften, you can gently massage the treatment out of your hair and then apply your deep conditioner . And you’re done, you can style your hair as you normally would.
